Using Company Karma as the backbone of our corporate culture, we strive to bring our employees all over the world together in a common dedication to do good - at work and beyond.
It is therefore pivotal that our employees feel both motivated and able to make a difference in their everyday lives. To support a common corporate culture and to help spread Company Karma to all corners of the world, we have developed a number of global platforms and activities that celebrate the dedication of employees of the entire THORNICO world.
The THORNICO Awards is an annual celebration of THORNICO’s dedicated employees. Employees can nominate each other for the three awards: Karma, Idea and Synergy & Collaboration. Local winners will be found in each group company, from which three global winners from throughout THORNICO will be chosen. These will be celebrated at the annual THORNICO Event in November.

Martijn has been involved in this MyKarma Project hosted by the Lighthouse Sports Foundation for a number of years now. The Lighthouse Sports Foundation is all about giving children with multiple disabilities the opportunity to participate in triathlon or regular running competitions by accepting them as a ‘’complete athlete’’, supporting them to do regular training together and participating in activities that are so obvious to others. The foundations also support parents and families with insights and positive future perspectives to help them endure the many hospital admissions and storms they have to overcome.

Annie and her project Homemade teddy bears for kids in emergency rooms are recognized for their great work helping children getting through a tough time and making a difference and doing good for the many children in the Danish emergency rooms.
“I have always wanted to help others, but I am not a millionaire and my time is scarce. However, I have managed to combine two interests – helping others and sewing.”, Annie Frydensberg Pedersen.
Homemade teddy bears for kids in emergency rooms is a Facebook group and organization, established in January 2016, the goal of the managers, in which Annie is a part of, is to collect and donate homemade teddy bears (sewing, knitting and/or crocheting) from a lot of volunteers to the different emergency rooms in Denmark. So, when children (aged 0-6 years) comes into the emergency room, because they have experienced some kind of accident, they receive a homemade teddy bear to ease the pain. The homemade teddy bears bring so much joy to the child in an otherwise difficult time, and it makes a world of difference in how smooth the treatment can be carried out.

The project “Building a Dream”, is about realizing a new dream for a Colombian family by building a house.
Adriana and her girlfriends from kindergarten 40 years ago have previously done voluntary work, and this time, they contacted the auxiliary organization Fundación Catalina Muñoz, who selected the family to move into the 25 m2 house. The family would own the land and cast the foundation, while Fundación Catalina Muñoz provided construction materials and safety equipment (helmets, gloves and dust masks) for the money from Denmark, just as they asked for some volunteers who had tried to build such a house before. Adriana and her girlfriends provided their own as well as their husband and children’s labor. In total, the group of friends had collected 28 people to work on the project.
It means a lot to us, that the way we approach Company Karma and CSR in general makes sense to our employees as well. That’s why we also encourage activities that generate a strengthened sense of community and shared value.
